Opera re:told: “The Marriage of Figaro” 2024

narrated by Frederic Böhle, musically accompanied by Gutenberg Winds

“The Marriage of Figaro” is considered the high point of opera and one of the greatest works of the genius Mozart. It marks the beginning of a collaboration between two masters of their craft: the composer Mozart and the librettist Lorenzo da Ponte.

The literary source was a scandalous play that landed the author in prison, fell victim to censorship and caused a furore. Louis XVI judged: "If I were to approve this play, I would have to tear down the Bastille straight away."

But “The Marriage of Figaro” is not only a socially critical piece with enormous explosive power, but also a comedy to the same extent – and one with enormous tempo. Sometimes it is not so easy to keep track of everything.

“Opera re:told” starts right there and presents the story in a new guise: told, not sung. No pompous orchestra, no over-the-top production, no exuberant stage design. Just a narrator accompanied by a wind octet and a lot of passion for a captivating story.

Opera re:told: “The Magic Flute” 2023

narrated by Frederic Böhle, musically accompanied by Gutenberg Winds

The opera “The Magic Flute” is one of the most famous masterpieces in music history. Even children know the famous “Birdcatcher” and the unforgettable revenge aria of the Queen of the Night. Hearing the combination of Mozart’s music and Schikaneder’s fairytale libretto is still an incomparable experience today.

But how did the Queen of the Night come to be angry with the wise Sarastro, and why did he kidnap Pamina into his temple? These and other questions are answered in this version - not sung, but told in an understandable and entertaining way by the actor Frederic Böhle. The Gutenberg Winds - a wind octet plus double bass - interpret the "harmony music" from Mozart's time.
